tinytim38
going to have a look at the above guns tomorow, what are there pros and cons of the both rifles, both good condition secondhand, any useful advice really appreciated
Harnser
I dont know what the difference is between the ruger and the sako as i have never owned a sako . What i can tell you is that the ruger is a very good well built gun that will last you a life time . I have a ruger m77 light weight scout rifle in .308 used exclusively for stalking . The rifle is accurate M.O.A. at 100 yards ,is light to carry around and because of the light weight is very pointable . I have owned many guns over the years and have decided that the ruger in .308 is the one for me when it comes to shooting deer . I am less active in the stalking world than i was a few years ago and now only shoot deer when it is necessary . The ruger will stand in my gun cabinet untill the day i die . The vogue seems to be for a heavy barrel rifle ,which would also double as a range gun . I have gone down the road of a light gun for obvious reasons . A light barrel rifle shoots just as hard as a heavy barrel gun . You takes your choise . Harnser .
tinytim38
Harnser, thanks for your input it is valued, Tim. as a good friend of mine once said whats the point of getting older if you don't get wiser?
Baldrick
Both rifles have their merits, but the Sako has the better trigger, and has a better finish. I'd echo what Harnser says about opting for a lightweight rifle.

Trussman
I had a look at a Ruger once. It felt like the kind of rifle you pick and just get on with it without faffing around.
