i have just been cleaning my shottie and have srayed the outside of the barrels with gun oil can some one let me know if it is ok to get the oil on the wood of the gun

Best way is to add the oil to a cloth rather than spraying directly onto metal.You dont really want liberal amounts of oil on the wood.

Don't get oil on the wood. Excess mineral oil in the wood can be drawn out using the equivalent of a desiccant, so don't panic.

Always store your shotguns barrel down in the cabinet so any excess oil runs off the rib and not into your stock as it can become saturated and weaker over time.

I DO STORE IT BARREL DOWN I DID'NT GET MUCH ON THE WOOD WHAT I DID GET ON IT I WIPED OFF BUT NOT SURE IF THAT DID ANY DAMAGE

Re your last post. It will only damage it if it's left to work it's way into the wood. As you wiped it off (Hopefully all of it) and I assume it is a modern gun with sealed wood, it should be fine.

 

By the way - I totally agree with the barrels down theory, saves the oil seeping through the firing pin holes and attacking the stock from within. Soggy wood = weak wood
