Saturday racing

After the dissapointtment of Boxing day the main race of the day on Sat at Sandown is the Tolworth Hurdle. I have not had a bet since Boxing day but will be making an investment on Sat so I can watch the race on Channel 4 at 2.35

It is a very competitive and evenly matched field and you could easily make a case for any of the runners.

I have won money on both Marcel and Phar Bleu earlier in the year and Marcel will I suspect be a very warm favourite for the race along with the Irish raider. Wild Passion (Those Bloody Irish keep coming over here and taking all our money home, still they need it. It cant be much fun eating spuds all the time )

Two horses which I find of great interest are Its Just Harry which is trained by C. Egerton. It is a very big step up in class for this Horse but it is interestng that A.P McCoy has chosen this relative novice in favour of Phar Bleu whom he has won on twice this season including previously at Chepstow in a Grade 1 Hurdle. Its just Harry would be worth a small eachway investment.

The other horse which I have been told has been working very well at Ditcheat is Made in Montot. It has not run in this Country and last ran in France in May when it stuffed Marcel out of sight. This is a very interesting runner indeed as it has been pitched in to the Fire big time. I would not have any concerns about its fitness at all as the trainer is amongst the best in the land.

Good luck to you if you do have a bet.

Come on Mike, get off the fence.

You have just mentioned five horses you fancy, in a nine horse race.

I need specific information, I know nothing about horses. :P:D:lol:

Millomite, if you have to ask that question, the answer is "none".

Cranfield... I was just trying to set the scene..:lol: Getting off the Fence my bet will be Its Just Harry £5.00ew.

Millomite of you want to back the rugby stick a Fiver on Gloucester in Ulster tonight.

They will be well up for the game particularly after losing to Leicester at Kingsholm last Sunday ( I was there unfortunately)

Or do you not follow proper Rugby ??:lol:

Each way is a win bet and aplace bet so £2.00 each way would be £4.00 total

Say you put £2.00 ew at 20/1 and it won your return would be...

£2.00 x 20 =£40 plus your stake returned = £42.00

Plus the Place portion as it was in the first three = £2.00 x 20 x .25 (1/4 of the odds for a place) = £10.00 plus your stake of £2.00 = £12.00

This would be reduced to 1/5th of the odds a place in certain circumstances or in handicaps with 16 runners and over 4 places are normally paid.

So if your horse wins at 20/1 you should receive win and place money totalling about £54.00

If placed ( ie 2nd or third or in some cases 4th )only £12.00

This is of course subject to prices took early. If you place a bet at SP which is Starting Price and there were withdrawals before the tape there might be a relative deduction in the pound under rule 4 for horses not under orders being backed before a new market could be formed... But we wont go into all that at the moment it can be very complex for a novice

I actually played RL at Bradford Oval in the late 70,s

It was a freindly game against Keighley and the Keighley team were short so me and a friend up there for the Stock car racing were volunteered as we both played Union at the time for a amateur side in Glos.

It was very much an eye opener as One of the Opposition players kept grabbing my scrotum in the tackle and blowing me kisses. I later heard he was in fact from Cumbria... I dont think he had tasted Gloucestershire brawn before and when he woke up later that afternoon with a severe headache anal sex was probably the last thing on his mind :lol:

I hope some of you had a bit EW on Its just Harry It ran a very good race and its a pity it was tipped up so much on the Morning Line as it was then backed steadily all morning. I did manage to get a bit of 12 ew last night.

Chivalry was very unlucky not to get a place in the 3.10. If you watched the race you will have seen that it was in 5th and holding when very badly hampered by the faller at the second last. It wouldnt have won the race but I am convinced it would have finished in the first four. I have been told that this horse is well thought of and will win again this year. I will keep you posted when it runs again.

I was a bit late getting to the Bookies Friday evening (couldn't go Sat, out all day)and I left the piece of paper at home with the horses names on.

I looked at the runners for Sandown and I could only recognise "Its Just Harry", so instead of spreading my money about, I bet £10 ew.

I believe the starting price was about 6/1.

Not too shabby then........ thanks Mike and thanks amnesia.:lol::lol:
