Load for a Howa 223 Rem required please

Recommended Posts

Never really got n133 to work in my Howa. Infact its taken nearly 200 rounds to find a load that works ok.

Settled on: Lapua Brass, CCI 400 Primers, 23gn of Alliant 10x and a Nosler 50gn

Out of interest how does your gun shoot in general.

Also which model/stock do you have.

Funny, works perfectly in mine, and the CZ before it, and tbe Remy VSSF before that and Lorraines Remy VS.

Must be you Nick :):good:

Mine's the posh one with the laminate stock and fat barrel but the CZ was a bog standard sporting barrel, the VSSF was virgin and Lorraines Remy is a VS with a 16" barrel.

n-133's a nice powder to work with for .223's

Lorraines is a tack driver at 100 yards and my Howa is nearly, if not, as good

Sorry question was aimed at the topic starter, As i shoot the same gun, and have never got on with it really i was interested to know what his experiances were.

I know n133 to be a fine powder in proper rifles (lol) hense spening £40 on a tub of it and then choosing to move on when it wouldnt work well.

As an aside how does the 16" barrel effect velocities?

DaveK - Can't get Viht N133 at my local gun shop, only Benchmark, which I believe is the nearest to N133 :hmm:

Dunganik - I've had the trigger adjusted - really very nice to shoot, crisp and positive :welcomeani:

I'm pleased with the rifle, it's well made and every thing would seem to be of a good quality.

I believe they are excellent value for money (most Japanese items I've found are well made to good quality control standards) I have the Grey laminated stock with the heavy barrell.

It shoots reasonably well now with the trigger done  ,but using the variety of ammo I've used :hmm: , that's one reason I want to reload and hopefully eliminate ammo from the accuracy equation, It should leave only two things to sort out. Firstly to get the scope sorted to the ammo and then the only thing left will be me. LOL

Not sure about velocities, but it looks like I will be trying a small tub of benchmark first, hope it will blend with the heads.

Does anyone have the Hornady manual to give me the info on how much benchmark for a 52g A-Max please :P

No idea about velocities Nick but performance wise it's same hole groups at 100 yards. Shame about your Howa though not getting on with n-133. Mine is superb, albeit a tad heavy, but performs almost as well as Lorraines Remy with the same loads in both.
