Jim Sarakun
SO THREE DAYS WE JUST HAD OUT SHOOTING. SUNDAY IT HOSSED DOWN, THOUGH YESTERDAY WAS BEAUTIFUL WITH LOADS OF BIRDS ABOUT, THOUGH THE TOTAL AT THE END OF THE DAY FOR SUNDAY AND MONDAY WAS ONLY 35. LIKE I'VE SAID BEFORE, WITH THE AMOUNT AROUND IT'S SHAMEFUL. THEY JUST DON'T WANT TO DECOY, OR THE FIRST FEW COME DOWN AND WITH ONE BANG THEY ALL GO FURTHER UP THE ROAD. SO THIS MORNING MY BUDDY AND I THOUGHT WE WOULD TRY THE RAPE OVER THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ESTATE, AND WE ARRANGED LAST NIGHT THAT HE WOULD LOOK IN AND SET UP THERE ,WHILE I SET UP IN AN OLD STUBBLE FIELD WHERE I HAD NOTICED A FEW AND THE ONE WHO HAS IT BANG OFF, THE OTHER WILL JOIN THEM. SO I DROVE THE LANDY RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD, THE WIND WAS PERFECT AND THEY WOULD BE FLYING INTO IT TO GET OUT OF THE CITY WHERE THEY ALL LIVE AND THERE I WOULD BE, 5 DEAD BIRDS IN CRADLES AND 2 ON THE TWIRLY WAITING. I JUST CHUCK A NET OVER THE TOP OF THE LANDY AND THREE POSTS DOWN THE SIDE WITH A NET IN THE FRONT AND IT WORKS WELL. I TRIED TO ADD A PICTURE, BUT WONT KNOW IF IT TOOK TILL I UPLOAD. IF IT HASN'T PERHAPS SOMEONE CAN TELL ME HOW TO DO IT. THE SUN WAS JUST COMING UP AS I TOOK THE PHOTO, GLORIOUS, THOUGH THE FULL IMPACT OF THE SUNRISE IS LOST. THESE EX MIL LANDIES ARE PRETTY MUCH A READY MADE HIDE IF THE FARMER WILL LET YOU TAKE IT ON THE FIELD. OURS DOES BLESS HIM. IT ALSO MAKES IT EASY TO MOVE ON IF IT ISN'T VERY GOOD. I LIKE TO SET UP AT DAWN, SO WHEN THE BIRDS COME OUT THE THING IS THERE ALREADY, AND I DON'T SPOOK THEM SETTING UP IN DAYLIGHT WHEN THEY CAN SEE ME. SO I WAS READY TO ROCK BY ABOUT 07.15. WELL I WAITED.......07.30......AND I WAITED...I PHONED ME MATE WHO WAS ON THE RAPE FIELD. NOT MANY THERE THOUGH. I SAID YOUR LUCKY 'COS I 'AINT SEEN ONE YET AND THEY ALWAYS COME OUT OF THE CITY. 07.45 AND YES, A FEW BIRDS IN THE SKY, THOUGH REALLY HIGH AND MILES AWAY. 08.00 ****** WHERE DID THEY COME FROM, 3 OF EM AND I GOT ONE. THEN I SAW THE GREY CLOUD RISE FROM THE EDGE OF THE CITY, HOLY MOSES, AND THEY WERE COMING THIS WAY. THEY FLEW HIGH OVER THE TOP OF ME, SLOWLY, NONCHALANTLY, MY HEART WAS IN MY MOUTH, BEHIND ME, THEN THEY WERE GONE. THEN I SAW THE OTHER GREY WAVE LEAVING THE CITY. MY VEINS WERE FULL OF ADRENALIN AND I WAS READY TO EXPLODE. THEY TOO WHERE HEADING MY WAY. THEY WERE LOWER. THE FRONT 30 OR SO PULLED THEIR WINGS BACK, THEY WERE GLIDING. THEY WERE COMING IN. WELL I SHOT LIKE A COMPLETE SPAZOID FOR A GOOD 10 MINUTES. MUST HAVE BEEN THAT ADRENALIN. THEY WERE COMING IN SO THICK, I COULD NOT LOAD QUICK ENOUGH. I PHONED ME MATE TO TELL HIM TO GET HERE QUICK, THROWING THE PHONE DOWN TWICE TO TAKE SOME SHOTS. AT THIS POINT IT ALSO DAWNED ON ME THAT I HAD ONLY PICKED UP 3 BOXES OF CARTRIDGES WHEN I LEFT. OZZ, ME MATE TURNED UP, SKIPPING ACROSS THE FIELD OVER TO MY LANDY AND ALL THE TIME THE BIRDS WERE OVERHEAD. DON'T SEE THAT HAPPEN VERY OFTEN. I ASKED HOW MANY SHELLS HE HAD. ABOUT 80 WAS THE REPLY. OH DEAR. THOSE BIRDS JUST KEPT COMING IN, EVEN WHEN WE WENT OUT TO STRAIGHTEN OUT THE DEAD ONES, AND WRING THE CLIPPED ONES, THEY WERE COMING IN. WELL IT WAS ALL OVER BY 10.45 ISH, WE HAD BOTH RUN OUT OF CARTRIDGES. I RAN OUT FIRST WHEN OZZ HAD 10 LEFT, AND AFTER THE TASTE HAD GONE FROM MY MOUTH, HE GAVE ME 3. EH?, WHAT ARE FRIENDS FOR. SO WE SAT FOR HALF AN HOUR, HAD A COFFE AND A FAG, AND JUST WATCHED THE BIRDS LANDING ON THE DECOYS. WE BOTH HAD TO ADMIT, THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL IN FLIGHT. WE PICKED UP 147 AND ALL THE WHILE WE WERE PACKING UP, THEY WERE COMING IN, FLYING OVER US, AND EVEN LANDING. WE DECIDED THAT EVEN AFTER A COUPLE OF NAFF DAYS, ALWAYS HAVE ENOUGH SHELLS IN THE MOTOR, 'COS YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU WILL NEED THEM.. I WANTED TO TAKE SOME PICTURES TOO, BUT AFTER THE FIRST ONE THE BATTERIES GAVE OUT. ANOTHER OF THE GUNS FROM THE ESTATE CAME TO COLLECT THE DEAD BIRDS, THEY GET SOLD ON AND GO TO FRANCE WOULD YOU BELIEVE. HE TOO COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW FIRSTLY WE RAN OUT OF SHELLS, AND SECONDLY HOW THE HUGE FLOCK WAS HANGING AROUND THE FIELD WHILE WE WERE STANDING IN IT
ozzy518
Not a lot I can add to that Jim, it was really a cracking day. Not seen anything like it for ages. Shame about running out of carts. It was unbelievable how they just kept coming in, even when we were stood out in the pattern. Suicidal for a lot of em.. Anyway, i just bought a load more carts so I aint gonna run out again. It was really frustrating sat there with no carts watching the flocks piling in and all we could do was wave at em. PS..DONT FORGET, YOU OWE ME 3 CARTRIDGES !!!! A quick pic of the Landy hide..... Edited December 2, 2008 by ozzy518

Ozzy Fudd
ah damn ive had that happen a few times; ive seen me WALKING over a mile with 300 shells strapped to my back to get into a hide for a "100% guaranteed amazing day"... and firing only 8 shots. seen other days when ive been lazy and gone out light with only the ammo belt (25 shells) and ive fired the lot within 20 minutes!! at least you had a good day anyway!!
