malkiserow
One of my permissions asked me to go there on the weekend, bright sun, no wind. The farmer knew it was a favour rather than serious shooting. After doing some shooting (23) on the rape fields and not in the best weather, the farmers Mrs stops for a chat. Next thing I get an invite for their farmers syndicate as a beater and invited to stay for supper afterwards. Guess I should get some chocolate and a stick! Really looking forward to it..... got my cards for the other farmers just in case they want some crop protection. David BASC
Have a great time - I love beating, next to pigeon shooting there is nothing I like more country sports wise. David
Dunkield
Enjoy it and well done. I am using up spare holiday beating twice a week at the moment, I can't believe how enjoyable it is seeing a shoot from the other side.
al4x
it makes you an expert on driven days and how to present birds, oh and on how badly others shoot amazing the opinions that fly in the beating line, still its great fun be prepared to sleep well as its good exercise
Dunkield
I guess it depends where you go, but luckily most of the crew I beat with also shoot so they know how hard it can be. Having said that we do some some amazingly bad and even dangerous shots It has been measured that we walk between 5 and 6 miles each day, not exactly Scotland stalking challenging (or Croatia for that matter ) but a nice stroll out in great company just the same. malkiserow
Well, it turned out to be a cracking day all round. Good company, nice sun and a cold frosty day. Good food at lunch and a nice evening meal. Sloe gin, port and wine were flowing well (just a little at lunch) and much more in the evening). 6 partridge 11 mallard 29 phesants a few bits and pieces of tree rat, pigeons and a crow. 4 drives before lunch and 4 after. Hope I get asked again. Slept well last night! Edited December 11, 2008 by malkiserow
