mft135
For a few years now i have had two dogs one chesapeak 4 years, and a black lab 2.5 years. Every chance i get i have the dogs down the beach or in my fields for a bit of training, the dogs love it and it get's them in shape for the duck & goose season. Up in the orkneys we are very lucky as i can see geese landing in the field below my croft, i could just about get them from my kitchen window they are that close somtimes. this time when i am home from my ship it will be mostly fore shore shooting. 5 minute drive to the beach as it is a small island i live on which is slightly south of the main island of orkney. Andy_B
Is the cheasapeake a local bred dog ?..would love one but seem much of a rarity in scotland !
mft135
Sorry for the late reply Andy B, the dog came from central england my wife went down to get him for my birthday, then they came up to inverness to deliver him to us in the tesco car park. It was all huge suprise for me to be presented with the chesi pup. My wife had to book the pup 2 years in advance, so quite a long wait, if you type in google there are a fair few chesi breeders in england, the trick is to get one from shooting stock. The best water dog i have seen very powerfull swimmer no problebs with even the biggest geese. Hope this is of some help.
Andy_B
Thanks for the reply...they are beautiful dogs and yours is a stunner...i have an 11 year old yellow lab who in his day would dive under water an re appear 10 secs later...was a nutter for water....he cant really go out at all now without being in pain for a day or too later...breaks my heart not being able to walk him anymore..but as he is in no pain dotting in and out of the garden an sleeping infront of the radiator i will let him see his days out ...this is the main reason i have not got another pup yet...couldnt go and walk the legs of the pup and leave th old fella in the house...not got the heart to do that to him... will look into the chessi breeders though...
