Imperfection
Eucalyptus (gum tree). This is probably the olympic sprinting grower where trees are concerned and once established-should see approximately 4ft growth per year. They need staking though for first few years because they're shallow rooted, but are hardy enough to withstand British winters.Dont stake too tight though because a little movement encourages it to put deeper roots out for better anchoridge. When young, they produce small round leaves, but at around 2 years old-they start growing teardrop shaped and this is when their growth starts to go mad.Plant one in your garden and you'll never have gnats bother you again.I had one until last year and it ended up taller than my house at only 4 years old... I planted a tiny one a couple of years ago. It is now 20ft tall.
