old rooster
Somebody asked a while back about housing ferrets and I gave a brief description of my "ferretarium". Here's a couple of pics showing the complete thing. One end is a three tier run with interconnecting drain pipe ladders, the other end is a shed inside which the nest boxes are fixed to give improved protection from the elements. Also inside the shed are nets, hay, wood shavings, boots, slasher, spade and other items of ferreting paraphenalia. I built this when living at my previous address, just prior to divorce and had it craned out of the back garden right over the house, onto a big flatbed trailer and delivered to my new abode. Local kids thought it was great fun to watch !!.

old rooster
The floors are made of 6'x3' sheets of ply wood on pine frames, they can be simply slid out for cleaning, I use an old garden hoe for day to day cleaning and remove and hose down the floors in the warmer months. The shed and roof were made from old car packing crates and the visible parts clad in shiplap to improve cosmetics. Quite a lengthy project which we built from the floor beams upwards. The end doors have removable plywood shutters so that ventilation can be improved in the summer (if we get one !!), when fitted they help to cut out the wind. They have a large bowl of water on the lower floor in the summer and are quite happy to splash about to cool down.
Paul in North Lincs.
Top class job OR. How may ferrets do you accomodate in there? Paul in North Lincs.
old rooster
There are six living in there at the moment. The top section has two nest boxes and the run part can be separatedwith a removable partition should any of the ferrets need isolating from the others. Handy when introducing new ferrets to the "gang" as if they just get chucked in with the established ones a bit of mayhem can ensue !! old rooster
nice one roost youve even plumbed a soil pipe in for them.straight into the septic tank!!! you must have trained them stinkers well Yup sure did, can you see the roll of toilet paper hanging up on the back wall ??. The big old hob won't use it, still prefers torn up pages of the Sun. B) There's a pigeon (or whats left of it) in the cage but a quick word of warning about feeding pigeons; be careful about using "non woodies" as my mate had a ferret die overnight when he fed it a sky rat, could have been coincidence but not worth the risk IMHO as a good working ferret is worth its weight in gold. We ferreted a place yesterday wher people had lost ferrets before and had six down at once to try and bully the bunnies out from under thick gorse. Bunnies came out and ferrets came back to hand. old rooster
He sure does and he gets a right ear bashing from his female cage mates. Just been offered a couple of young jills, two tier cage and some nets by a guy who is packing up. I've enough of all three so if anyone is a genuine ferreter and would like them please get in touch.
