GJUK
Hello, From my understanding Grade ratings allow possible buyers to know the 'condition' of the gun. Which way does it work, Grade 1 = the best, no marks and Grade?...10 is poor? Can someone tell me how this works please? Thanks, Jon
tweedledee
normally grade would be the level of finish.for instance a grade 5 would come with much nicer wood and more engraving. grade 1 is same gun but not as well finished and plainer wood
GJUK
ahhh okay. So it's not the condition of the gun itself. Who would grade the gun, anyone ie the owner, or the maker of the gun? Thanks, Jon
buckshot100
The gunmakers set the grade, 1 to 5. Like tweedle said, in ascending order of quality of wood & finish to the action, ie. more intricate engraving. Having said that grade 1 wood isn't at all bad to look at on some guns. My MK38 grade 1 has a nicely figured stock, but the grade 5 version is awesome. At about twice the price it ought to be!
GJUK
Thanks, Is grade 5 the top you can get? I've noticed someone selling a grade 6 in the FS forum. Jon
Peter De La Mare
Grades go all the way up to 12. Most manufacturers retail up to grade 5 as 'production' but have optional upgrades to wood and engraving way above grade 5. These higher grades are usually just made to order. If you look on the Krieghoff website you'll see the higher grade stocks etc. For instance, the £50k Berettas will be grade 9+, though they won't rank them in such 'vulgar' ways.
