Topgunners
I went out for a mooch on some fields saturday and found the pigeons were flocked up in there 100's on a number of fields of rape and after an hour driving round I decided to set up in the most likely looking one. Classic case again of 3/4 birds and up they fly off into the distance NOT to return. I picked up and decided to carry on reccying and popping in to a number of my farms. Having a chat with the farmers about the pigeons " flitting" about all over the place, what they are likely to be drilling this year and updating all of my permission letters. Sunday was forecast a lot better weather of up to 8 deg and windy. I set up on a large field with 2 bangers on and walked round and switched them off. After about 20 mins or so the first birds came back and over the next 4 hours I had dropped 34 and missed a few more than normal due to them flying very fast in the wind. (don't know what happened to the 8 degs) I was then joined about 2 o'clock by a mate who was going to lamp for me later on the bunnies. The pigeons had stopped coming in by then and shortly after we picked up and was just driving out of the farm and spotted 100's of pigeons in the wood (about 300yards from where I had set up.) I stopped the jeep and we both grabbed the shotguns and cartridge bags and spent a manic last hour roost shooting for another 19 birds. We then drove over to the bunny farm but not many were showing and we ended up with 5 only. Still; not a bad day in winter conditions.
