Check the recycle bin too - might have inadvertantly been deleted, or the folder have been set to hidden. Unhide all folders and look again. Ask if you need me to tell you how.

I am also assuming it is a Windows system (restore points?)

Just for info, my interpretation of the 'roll back' / restore point is that it rolls back system type operations such as installation of new software etc.

I don't think it will effect personal files as it were.

TRY THIS:

On the search option:

Start

Search

For Files and folders

Search Options

Tick Date

Enter window dates around when your daughter got on the PC

This should show files that have been modified in this date window

another thing you could try is putting the prefix letters of your foto's, each make of camera has a series of letters and numbers to identify individual foto, my camera uses the letters "DSC and then a number. if you still have some pictures on the laptop, open the containing folder and look for the letters, (if all foto's have been deleted download at least 1 more from the camera and check out the letters in front of the numbers. ) enter these letters only into the search, select hard disks and search. if they are still there this should find them, if not its bad news i am afraid.

Hi

If the folders are empty we probably have to assume the worst.....

Now, there are some things you can do, and without going into the detail of it, it means that we will be looking in the "empty" spaces on that pc for a deleted file that hasn't been overwritten yet. Similar to what the forensic techies do. I am not sure what your level of skill is, and obviously it would be best if one can get access to the physical drive (also stop using the PC and don't defragment the computer), but I can try and talk you through what you need to download, install and how to use it - if you are willing to scratch around in the file system of the computer.

There is software that we can use to examine the drive for deleted images (as initially they aren't really deleted, the space they occupy is just flagged as being available for reuse - in a manner of speaking), but obviously the more the computer is used the greater the potential for these, or parts thereof, to be overwritten

I suppose the question you have to ask yourself (or your daughter) is how valuable the photos are, i.e. is it worth the effort to try and reclaim it.

Probably best, if you want to go down this route, to PM me and I'll attempt to talk you through it
