tosspot
Born into it, there is a traditional photo that runs in the family of my boy, myself and brother, and our father as four / five year olds stood with guns twice our height. My old fella lives for shooting Grandfathers on both sides were country men one a warrener and the other apparently a notorious local poacher both taught me loads and I miss dearly those winter evenings of tales of derring-do My son is not afflicted with the fascination of all things that fire a projectile to the same degree ...... but there is time yet
Guest
OK Sorry guys about my "shooting career" I shouldn't have written it, I can see people here have a more extensive history if shooting or at least more extensive than my "glorious" 2 months of real shooting
Fatcatsplat
Played rugby for 20 odd years and after breaking my knee, managed to chuck on 5 stone that i have not managed to shift (albeit that i probably ain't trying too hard) so decided at age 40 i'd do something a little more sedate. Tried golf and i was absolute cack, decided i was probably too young for crown green bowls and bridge was never really my thing. Got invited to a corporate clay day, went along and got hooked. I'm still cack, but i do enjoy it!

mark_mjs93
OK Sorry guys about my "shooting career" I shouldn't have written it, I can see people here have a more extensive history if shooting or at least more extensive than my "glorious" 2 months of real shooting dont worry mate i had a naff story to and im the one that started the thread i dont matter how amazing or how rubbish your story is, this thread is all about people sharing their stories with the other members... its just another thread to help us see why some people get into shooting, besides some the reasons of getting into shooting are random... Salop Matt
My farther has always been a shooter and was taught by a well known local poacher who would take the local lads so when he shot buuys the other sides of fences they could scramble over the fence for the retreive as This poacher "george" was about 18-20stone and fence climbing didnt come easy, my dad still shoots with his son but george is no longer with us. Anyway at the age of 8 after years of been dragged to sunday school with my mom i got given the choice of going to church with my mom and the old folks or going with my dad and the lads starting out with a bacon and egg butty and cuppa insted To say the decision was simple is a understatement ! So untill the age of 12 a sunday morning came and i was fed and watered and loaded myself up packhorse style with everyones cart bags and clip board with cards on and halled myself around the shoots. At the age of 12 i would join my dad rough shooting where after 6 months i was given a single barrel hammer .410 that i would carry to learn gun safty with , It was a steep learning curve with a telling off once in a while for incorrect handling of the gun although i never saw a cartridge. Age 14 with that gun after carrying it for 2 years empty and had my gun safty repeatedly drilled into me i was taken to a clay shoot where i had my first 5 shots with it at 5 single clays and hit 3 out of the 5, two weeks later on the annual roost shoot we attened every feb i stood by my dads side with my .410 and was given a cartridge at a time and would wait for the woody to land before shooting 6 weeks later i had ago at woodys in flight but wasnt so sucsessfull. My 15th birthday came along and so did my SGC forms with a cheque for the cost from my dad. From then till that chistmas i shot my dads browning semi auto with 24g loads quickly moving upto 28g loads. The next febuary first week of the annual roost shoot i was presented with my first 12g OU miruku which i loved and bagged plenty of woodys with and smashed plenty of clays with. I kept that gun untill last march when i sold it and bought a silver pigeon as the miruku was to small for me by then. So first saturday of febuary I will be out in the wood to claim the silver pigs first woody, with my dad futher down the wood. We still have that .410 and I have a box of carts waiting to as i plan to revisit being 14 again and one week giving the .410 a bash again ! lefty22
When i was younger i pestered my mum to buy me an airgun as my friend had one, she knew a friend who lives a few houses away, who is into shooting and she asked him to introduce me safely and all has escalated from there. I went out with him shooting the odd rabbit and i am now beating on a local shoot and have been invited to shoot on the keepers day. Im only 14 but i hope to continue shooting all my life. lefty

reedbradshaw
It all started when i went round my friends house and watched him and his dad shoot an old meteor at paper. I then ended up getting my first rifle, a .177 edgar bro's aged about 8....but i was only allowed to shoot it on my grandads huge...(or seemed huge at the time) backyard also at paper. When i turned about 14/15 i managed to save up a few pennies to get myself a ratcatcher in .22 i used to shoot alsorts from rats to pigeon Soon after i went away with a friend and his Dad ....who had shotguns. Shot my first rabbit with a 12 gauge and it grew from there. 6 years on i now have 3 SG's and awaiting a FAC which i reckon has been lost in the bl**dy post....been months and the cheque still hasnt gone out of my account : /
