harpoonlouis
Just a word to encourage others. I volunteered to beat for the end of last season at a small local syndicate, I needed the exercise! I was invited to carry my gun on the last couple of days of the season and have also been invited roost shooting the last few weekends. I have to say I didn't have any intention to try and get anything in return for the beating but once you are in close contact with other shooters it seems a lot easier to talk about permissions and they can see if you are OK, safe etc. Maybe it will work for others too. Good luck. Edited February 19, 2009 by harpoonlouis
al4x
thats why beating works, its a two way street. After all you're not exactly paid a days wages for going so the repayment is usually through a beaters day and roost shooting. Then if you're known as a safe gun you'll probably get an invite on vermin days then it starts getting fun
Dunkield
I don't beat that often, so I am happy to get an invite to the walk and stand day and the summer clay shoot/barbie. This year the the bag was a bit on the small side on the walk and stand day, so we were offered roost shooting to finish the day off. At the end of that I was asked if I fancied vermin shooting and more roost shooting over the comming weeks. I have been going every Saturday since the season ended and the added bonus of ratting Sunday afternoons
