Teal
Some big priced each ways for day three, the most low key of the four but also the BEST BET of the week........... The previous days were tricky. 2.00 A tricky opener, a moderate handicap chase. LE PASSING ew, (20/1) is highly talented and will make them all go, i think despite the weight he could be too good for them all. Captain Corelli has won his last two and is an attractively weighted danger, with Graphic Approach and Lacdoudal others to consider. 2.35 My best bet of the meeting is RATHGAR BEAU (NAP, BANKER 9/2).. Trip is ideal, and he was considered a Champion Chase possibility. This is a much easier race and I will be hugely disappointed if he is beaten. The useful but inconsistent Le Roi Miguel, Hand Inn hand, Our Vic (soft in a finish?) and Thisthatandtother make most appeal (albeit limited) of the rest. 3.15 Westender has run well in this before and would be an emotional winner after the recent passing of his colourful owner. RULE SUPREME (6/1) runs here rather than in several other tougher engagements and can serve it up to old rivals Baracouda and CrystalD'Ainay. Inglis Drever has a huge task as a six year old here, but his stable have already had two winners at the meeting and a bold bid is anticipated. I am taking a chance that Rule Supreme's turn of foot and today's showers might prove decisive in a race that seems to lack an obvious pacemaker that could turn into a sprint up the home straight. 4.00 Most of these are not in great form - and it would be no surprise if Supreme Prince or COLCA CANYON ew (16/1) gave these rivals weight and a beating, but the 19lbs they have to concede to Ghadames makes that rival a danger. However the whisper i have heard is that Colca Canyon has been impressing in his home work. Given that he comes from the Moscow Flyer stable, they should know! He has won after a lay-off in the past and the likely fast pace throughout will suit too. 4.40 Another amateur riders' event. Anyone reading the Wednesday column knows what i think about these events and in what is the lowest key day of the four, in honesty this is a race to avoid. Tom Greenall and JT Mcnamara are the best two pilots in the race and so it may pay to focus on their rides. KEEPATEM (5/1) is preferred to Garryvoe on that basis. 5.20. Timmy Murphy opts for Ravenswood of the Pipe team - mob-handed - here, but i think his TEAM TASSELL ew (25/1) is more talented and off just a 1lb higher mark, can defy the Murphy choice. The Bajan Bandit beat the in-form Hirvine last time and the form looks strong, so at the top end of the weights they should both run well. Good luck etc. Sorry- been away for the start of the festival.

Teal
Biut disappointing yesterday- followed you on inglis jonno- cheers. Here's the tips i recieved today, they weren't up to much yesterday though - sorry about that :S Have we picked out some longshots for Friday! 2.00. A strong Irish presence here, but none of the form knocks the eye out and it could be that Graham Lee will win the opener for the third day in four aboard the very smart recruit AKILAK (5/1) who has won both his starts over hurdles. Carte Diamonde, Faasel and penzance should also be considered, with the first named having been targeted at this race for a long time. 2.35 A near impossible race with so many in-form horses with very similar form. Bewley's Berry bids to make it a winner a day for the Graham Lee, Howard Johnson team, if Akilak is beaten. Brewster, Thames and Washington Lad are also last time out winners with a chance. One that didn't win last time is Francois Doumen's MOULIN RICHE (12/1) but the French team's raiders look to be in great form and Doumen is rarely far away when the Cheltenham prizes are given out. He is a speculative suggestion. 3.15 Tote Cheltenham Gold Cup: In the absence of so many fancied horses, if Beef or Salmon wins we will know this truly was a sub-standard showpiece. And much depends on whether Grey Abbey runs. If he does, the race will be a searching gallop, If not it may turn into a sprint. The three other market principals are essentially good handicappers, Strong Flow, Celestial Gold and possible non-stayer Kicking King while soft ground specialist Sir Rembrandt might actually want further. So there are negatives about almost everything!!! Could be a massive shock result then. Martin Pipe thinks that his horse, THEREALBANDIT (25/1 ew) barely stays, but in a race of more questions than Magnus Magnusson ever asked, I am going for this classy horse, who has excellent good ground form and travels sweetly in his races. If it was on soft ground i doubt he'd get home, but this ground should help. If Grey Abbey is a non-runner, then the selection is a much more confident each way bet. 4.00 The Foxhunters......... for amateur riders............ (a race that might need to be renamed!). Most have been point to pointing and for them it is a big ask to tackle Martin Pipe's classy Lord Atterbury, who is a Grand National fancy in many people's eyes, though not mine, given his dodgy jumping. Earthmover tries to win this race for a third time, but is no spring chicken, so for fun try POLAR CHAMP (66/1ew) who has won his last three points and at these odds has a realistic place chance. 4.40 It is astonishing to see former Champion Chaser FLAGSHIP UBERALLES (50/1ew) turn up in a race this weak. An 11 year old now (but so is Moscow Flyer - whose bum the Flagship has seen plenty of!) in his pomp he would have carried these. He may be on the downgrade now, but in the hope there is one more big run in him, he is selected. Impek and Almaydan rate the dangers, in a race where the favourites look weak. 5.20 The talented Rigmarole heads the weights but there are a lot of horses with better chances off light weights. Monte Cinto, McBain and Stance are all possibilities off 10 stone and BONGO FURY (NAP,ew 10/1) ran second to Essex at Newbury, and the latter ran in the Champion hurdle. That is far and away the best pound for pound form on offer and he should win this finale.
jonno 357
So how hard is it to back a winner at Cheltenham then ? Mikes selection Sir Rembrandt is certainly a dour stayer. Can last years second( and Mikes tip last year 100/1) do one better this year ? It remains to be seen If the plan comes together Kicking King will kick *** ? Jonno Kicking king. What can I say, the Jonno Napster offered you this information for free earlier this week I was never in any doubt it would still the trip and the up hill finish Hope you all lumped on him, cos I did Take care from a very very happy Jonno
Teal
The Midlands national is a thorough test of stamina and while there are a couple of nicely weighted dangers in Toulouse Lautrec and Howdydoody, the class act has to be D'ARGENT (5/1 win), for whom the drying ground has come in time. He is strongly fancied to beat some moderate rivals. On the Flat the Lingfield Derby. A low draw is essential on these sharp bends and so the favourite Econium in box 13 and Compton Bolter in 11 are passed over. Counsel's Opinion and Eccentric have big chances but preference is for HURRICANE ALAN (22/1 Hills ew MAX)who has tip-top form against some of the smartest flat horses in training, Soviet Song, Refuse to Bend and Ancient World, has won first time out before and in stall two has a great draw. It is his first try on the surface, but the Hannon team have been making very bullish noises about both the surface and the step up in trip, and at 22/1 is a MAXIMUM each way bet for me. jonno 357
Cheers Teal. I too fancy D'argent Totally agree with the low draw but other factures come into play with the low draw. The kick back and the front running pace. As we all know draw play's an essential part of the way we make our selections Good Luck Jonno
