nick_c
Hello, I am very new to clay shooting. Due to a recent spell of ill health I have still not aquired my own gun or done much in the way of clay shooting. Thus looking for a helpfull dealer to help me in the right direction as far as gun choice/fit is concerned. I Live close to Thame on the bucks/oxon border, can you kind people recommend me a helpfull dealer in my area. I am willing to travel a reasonable distance so does not have to be right on my doorstep. I have been to the Oxford gun company a few times, which is very close to me, but, was not impressed with the experience. Thank you, Nick. p@cman
Francis Lovel and Adenbourne Fieldsports both up near Witney, Oxford may worth considering. Not too far to travel from where you are. I have found both shops to be very helpful.
fuzrat
Hi Nick, I will second what p@cman says both of the shops in witney are good, Francis Lovell tends to cater more to the game shot with his choice of guns on display and Adenbourne are better for clay shots in my view. nick_c
Thank you for the info Fuzrat, I would not have checked and may well have gone along on Monday. Bit of a change of topic, if you do pop back to read this, I noticed you just sold a Cynergy. The model I have been looking at, not sure if it will fit me though. How did you get on with it if you dont mind me asking? Thank you, Nick.
fuzrat
The cynergy used to jump about too much for me, it was slapping me in the cheek all the time. a friend of mine had the plastic one and she had to wear a gum shield. both of us have gone to Ultra XS now feels a lot more balanced. cant tell you how it shoots yet cos it wont be out for the first blast til sunday Horses for courses tho, I know quite a few people that say they are the dogs dangly bits and others who absolutely hate them see if you can get a try with one and see for yourself. Cheers Fuzrat

Glenshooter
Sorry and a bit surprised that you don't rate Oxford Gun Company as I am there almost every weekend and have just bought a new Browning from them. Always found Doug and family to be really friendly with good prices - they are particularly good with getting kids into shooting - especially David. Doug as you probably know must be one of the most experienced instructors and gun shop owners in the country. But if you have had a bad experience, that counts more than anyone else's opinion. Good luck - I'll be watching this thread with interest. Edited March 12, 2009 by Glenshooter
Fuji Shooter
Been to Oxford Gun before - waste of time he just flogs you what he has lying around not what you are looking for or fits you.
windrush
Nick Fuzrat has summed up the Witney shops well. Nothing more to add except to say you can get up-close and personal with many guns in both shops and help is readily available, should you want it. As far as the OGC is concerned, and to add a middle view to those previously expressed, well I’ve shot with David and liked both his company and his coaching style but the shopping experience can be a little, what shall we say, ‘intense’, if you know what I mean? I've never found browsing to be an option. Is that fair? Banbury Guns is a behind-the-counter display (like OGC) which personally I find awkward, but if you’re into guns & fishing, then you have everything you need in one shop. Nobody has mentioned EJ Churchill at Lane End. Never bought anything nor shot there. Open gun display, however I expect the consensus would say that it's not necessarily at the cheaper nor beginners end of the spectrum. nick_c
Thank you for all of the reply's. It was not my intention for this thread to lead to critism of local dealers, but to help me find other dealers that have been helpful to the members on this site, and also dealers that I may have not come across before. I do though appreciate the honest views of the members here. I will be visiting the dealers mentioned above next week, thank you for the recommendations. I drive past churchills quite often but had forgotten all about it. I will pop in there too. Nick.
