busdennis
hi i read a thread a little time again saying that putting some dead pigeons in your pattern at the front as if they where going to lift off was a good idea. how does the dead bird need to be positioned to simulate a lifting bird? thanks
anser2
I think we credit pigeons with too much credit when it comes to intelligence indeed compared to wild ducks pheasants and wild geese they are very stupid. After all how many times do you see a flock of pink feet geese when frightened by close gunshots get up and fly forward a few 100 yards and flop into the decoys. No they get out of the area fast. I think what the birds see when placing dead pigeons with their wings open at the front or back of a paten are the white wing bars , that attracts their attention as they get closer they then see the main decoys or get fixed on the magnet \ bouncer and forget about the open winged dead birds. Anyway if you watch a flock of feeding pigeons its the birds at the back of the flock not the ones at the front that get up and fly forward for fresh feeding. Cranfield
Spend some time watching the birds feeding and you will get some great ideas about layouts. I think the position you are referring to is for dead birds placed near the back of the layout in an "Angel of the North" type pose. Very like a floater/bouncer, but almost/or on the ground.
