Bleeh
Yes there still legal. The trap is spring operated with a trip wire firing 12b blanks - when the wire is tripped, the spring is loosed that fires the blank - scarying the bejesus out of anything close to it. For best effects, try and place them in a tin drum or something, this makes the sound twice as load, and makes you **** your pants twice as much. The blanks (which are shorter than normal cartridges) are quiet expensive at about £10 for 20 Edited March 26, 2009 by Bleeh
libs
Will also alert your fine self to the intruder if you are within ear shot, which with a 12b BP blank is a large area.

Warlock
They work by a spring loaded firing pin hitting a 12 gauge blank, this is operated by a trip wire type arrangement, attaching to gates is very easy, i use them in places where i shoot at night to stop people paying too much interest in my activities and being un-noticed, they are perfectly legal. darren m
brill  which sort will i need to put on a gate , does one half go on the gate the other part on the gate post or do you put just the wire round the gate post . or are the just set off by movement thanks lads
Warlock
The firing mechanism bit with the cartridge fixes to the post, the wire is attatched to the gate by using a hook and eye or just tying it onto a nail, the wire gets pulled releases the safety pin, spring is released hey presto loud bang.
