mark12345
can someone please explain what the chokes do, from what i understand it changes the shape and flight of your shot, is there a scail that explains this? for example 1/4 choke = X shot pattern at X meters 1/2 choke = X shot pattern at X meters 3/4 choke = X shot pattern at X meters Full choke = X shot pattern at X meters i understand that the type and size of cartrage may affect this, so for arguments sake lets use a 30g No6 with a plastic wad
Cushat
I went to the considerable effort of googling "Shotgun chokes" and first two hits were: http://www.kwacs.org.uk/barrels&choke.htm http://basc.dotadmin.com/media/shotgun_cho...nd_patterns.pdf And try this - it's even got pretty pictures: http://www.chuckhawks.com/where_pattern_today.htm Most of this stuff has also already been explained/discussed on PW so a quick search on here would give plenty of reading too. wymberley
Hi,Mark, Choke decreases the rate of divergence of the shot when it leaves the barrel. In yards at 40, 1/4 is 55%, 1/2 is 60%, 3/4 is65% and 4/4 (full) is 70%. It doesn't really matter what cartridge you specify, the only accurate way that you can define a degree of choke for any given gun (and matched with any given cartridge for that matter) is to test it at the pattern plate. Unless you've been dealing with the likes of that nice Mr Purdey, whatever choke is marked on the gun is nothing more than a nominal boring. Hope that helps, Cheers
