mikee Posted April 10, 2009 Report Share Posted April 10, 2009 hi guys, some of you may know the answer, yesterday i changed the fuel lines on my Maverick from the diesel tank to the fuel pump, the existing steel pipes had started to rust through and leek so i removed and replaced them with copper pipe, originally they were 8mm to the tank and 6mm return, i have used 8mm both ways as 6mm was not available for the return, when test driving last night it pulled fine in each gear until about 2/3 revs then stopped pulling and would not accelerate anymore, i was thinking that possibly at higher revs there isnt enough fuel because the return is letting fuel flow back to the tank too quickly where previously it was held at the pump longer by the smaller Ø pipe, does this sound right or am i barking up the wrong tree mikee Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
daz2202 Posted April 10, 2009 Report Share Posted April 10, 2009 You need to restrict the return somehow. On my race car i restrict the return fuel hose so to give higher pressure at the injectors, thus assisting at higher revs. If you have done it in copper then go to a plumbers merchant and buy 2 8mm x 6mm reducers and a bit of pipe. as long as at some point its only 6mm this should give the same flow/pressure as you had before. Blackbart Posted April 10, 2009 Report Share Posted April 10, 2009 Just before you waste your time going to the plumb merchant,phone first as i tried to get a 6mm reducer last week and the had nothing that small.The smallest they had was 8mm.Mine was for an american fridge that neede a water supply to it and i couldnt find the pipe or the adapter for the water supply anywhere.Nowhere seems to do 6mm pipe ! lurcherboy Posted April 10, 2009 Report Share Posted April 10, 2009 Your barking up the wrong tree mate as the size off the leak off/return pipe will have no bearing on performance.
