stet
I tried to zero my new scope yesterday on my 22 lr but shot was way low out of range off the cross hairs i have read about putting shims on the rear mount but have never had to do this. My question is before i try this is could it be a problem with the scope or is it normal practise cheers.
tweedledee
was the scope optically centred before mounting ? you can`t expect to mount a scope and expect it to hit the target without adjustment.check your mounts first.make sure they are centred on the dovetail mounts.what range are you trying to zero at? stet
mounts are fine note sure what you mean by optically centered tried to zero at 10m and the cross hairs wouldn't go that low i have mounted plenty of scopes and zeroed them but never had this problem Edited April 12, 2009 by stet
varmintator
Happened to me mate when I changed my scopes around, its good to turn windage and elevation dials as far as they can go and then count the clicks back it wont go any further the other way. Divide this by 2 and turn it that many clicks back, this way you will at least give your self a chance and some movement. Then you can optically bore site it you need some sand bags to steady the rifle. 1.remove the bolt from the rifle 2.look through the bore itself, move the rifle to the centre of the bullseye on the target inside the barrel. 3.Hold the rifle steady with the bulls eye centred when viewed through the bore, make windage and elevation adjustments to the scope until the very centre of the reticle is aligned with the bulls eye of the target . This is how I do it and it gets you pretty damn close and saves you a heap of ammo. I am sure there are other ways but this is what I do, hope it was of some help. stet
forgot to say its a ruger 10/22 so cant look down barrel will try changing mounts around cheers
realtreedave
sounds like a typical shim job, just loosen off your mounts and insert shims under your scope at the rear mount one at a time and test the results each time as different shim material will give different results.you can use cut up coke tins, pop bottles, plastic packaging, film negatives or insulation tape
realtreedave
ps dont over do it as you can stress the internals of your scope.if the problem cant be fixed with 2 or 3 shims try looking for an adjustable set of mounts
