Gareth0689
I have a few small rust spots on the barrels winchester o/u. I have managed to remove the rust and I am wanting your opinions on blueing kits. Are they ok or should I get the barrels professionally re-blacked? Thanks in advance, Gareth. deadeyedick
In my opinion I would get them done by a good gunsmith. Ther reason being, not that it is particuarly hard to do, one ends up with a rather cheap 'glossy' finish. However, there are a few good blueing kits out there. Gemini
Be very careful about this as some “Blueing kits” can sometimes start to remove the original blacking, making it look worse than it did before you started. You can buy a touch-up pen for the odd little scratch or spot, but if it requires anything more than that then a full re-black will set you back @ £75. http://www.bwildandson.co.uk/history/history2/ G.M. Gareth0689
Thanks for the replies everyone. I will try the blue pen as there are only 5 or 6 very small spots, if thats npt successful I will consider getting the barrels blacked by a gunsmith. Gareth. Wrap the whole barrel in black insulation tape Only joking fella We've all done something the cheap and wrong way in the past and regretted it later "Buy cheap buy twice" It might be not that expensive at a gunsmiths Jonno
