ferretmanabu
Assuming that a flight line has been found,is it worth setting up decoys over winter rape by just placing them on the crop? I know its better to find bare patches that have been fed on but if one isn't available would just placing the deeks on the tall crops work? Catamong
No it wouldn't work - most of the rape in my area is at least knee high now and you would be unlikely to find most of the birds that you hit - you also wouldn't be very popular with the Farmer, as if you trample the plants at this stage of growth, they will not recover. Stick to the bare patches, usually around the headlands - there is still some good sport to be had.
ferretmanabu
Yep. I went for a bit of a recce today and found a big bare patch on the field. The flightline doesn't quite go exactly over the field though but I'll give it a try tomorrow. Any tips on how to lure the pigeons off the flightline onto my deeks? Staffs-Shooter
Try a floater in between the flightline & the area you are shooting. Went out on a recy myself today & saw loads of pigeons on a field we shot last weekend - fingers plated
lurcherboy
Shooting small bags on 3 foot high rape with floaters in the tram lines. LB
hill billy
i went out on rape 2 day if you have any floaters then use them they work very well on tall crops the only problem was even though i was shooting over a fairly eaten off area i still lost a lot of birds and you will be worse off shooting in just standing crop
