Epic Fail
on the SGC it says "the shot guns to which this certificate relates must at all times be stored securely" and the FAC says "The firearms and ammunition to which this certificate relates must at all times be stored securely" does this mean that the shotgun cartridges do not have to be stored in a safe that is bolted to the wall? i have read somewhere on here that someone keeps them under their bed and thats its not a legal requirement to store them in a safe... it might be a silly question but i just wanted to be clear about this

hurstpol
A. the best policy for this is if you have the capacity to store ammunition for your shotgun in a locked secure way DO IT, but the advice to enquiry officers by the home office is as below. Ammunition 36. As a matter of best practice, ammunition for section 1 firearms ought to be kept secure apart from the firearm. Although secure storage of shotgun cartridges is not a requirement of the Firearms Acts, it is sensible to recommend that these should be locked away for both security and safety, especially where there are children in the house. 37. Although ammunition is not generally a serious fire hazard, in advising on the location of any ammunition container, ensure that it is not in an area exposed to a risk of fire. It is also not advisable for an ammunition container to be located in the area of an escape route from a room where there is a fire risk (eg kitchen). If there is any doubt on the safety or method of intended storage, the Explosives Liaison Officer may be consulted. This is also recommended in the case where a private Certificate holder intends to keep reloading articles such as gunpowder, primers or large quantities of cartridges etc. So no it is not a requirement of your shotgun certificate, but it is advised that if you have secure storage, use it!. Hope this is a help.

Imperfection
Generally,if you have children its advisable to lock your shotgun carts in a cupboard or atleast put them out of reach of them. I dont have kids, but friends do so they're stacked on top of wardrobe where they cant get to them.
henry d
I`m not a clay shooter but try to buy 3-6000 carts at a time and my FEO asked me to get a secure container to lock them away Anywhere that is away from children and casual visitors was the BASC answer.
