I'm a total noobie to shotguns & i bought a bisley kit for cleaning.

This one: http://www.swillingtonshootingsupplies.co....G-CLEANING-KIT/

I'm not sure what everything is for & how to use it & in which order!

How often would i need to clean the gun?

I have a Browning 352 grade1 if that makes any difference.

Any help would be great.

thanks

Just my personal way.......

1 - Dismantle and use a ball of loo roll to clean out the tubes, no need to use anything but the rods. Check to see how much more dirt and any streaking(lead/plastic)

2 - Bore cleaner down the tubes and wait. I have ss tubes in mine so I don`t use it unless I have a lot of fouling.

3 - Scrub if necessary with the brush.

4 - Use the brass jag with a patch on it to remove dirt and cleaning fluid, have another look and if necessary do it again !

5 - Lightly oil the wool mop and pass down each tube.

6 - If a multichoke clean the choke tubes.

7 - Clean action, lube hinge pins(light grease) and ejectors(small amount of oil).

8 - Lightly oil outer face of action and breech end of barrels and assemble these two together, then lightly oil outer surface of barrels. Attach fore-end and wipe off any excess oil.

Everytime !

I agree with Henry almost to the letter.

I don't worry about the ball of loo paper first I just spray some napier gun cleaner down the bores and put to one side while I clean the action and forend. I then scrup the bores with a bronze brush and rod.

I then use napier superclean patches on a roll to wipe them out until dry and clean. Hold up to the light and see if there is anything left in there. If there is repeat as necessary.

I then remove the choke tubes and clean them and the threads in the barrels. A wipe with light grease and put them back in. the hinge pin and forend bearing have a tiny ammount of grease as well as the bite for the top lever bolt.

I then reassemble the gun and wipe all over with a rag which has a quick squirt of napier gun oil on it. leaving a very fine film of oil on it. This is then rewiped when I go out again.

I don't do this everytime I use my gun as I might use it about 3 or 4 times a week at the moment. But I will always do it if I have been out in the rain or at least once a week.

Sorry if this reads like an advert for Napier products but I do find them the best.

use the napier range myself and never had a prob .... i use the gun cleaner/ lube and find it cleans most fowling ( heavier stuff needing more af a scrub ) and use a rag ( with same stuff on ) to wipe over the outside to provide a protective film :hmm:
