cowboy1403
Short story on how i gained and lost my permission. Couple of years ago whilest refurbing farm cottage for a land owner that i have known for many years,a couple of guys turned up and started decoyong pigeons.the next day i was talking with the farmer and mentioned the 2 guys.he replied that they come down and shoot every now and then but not as often as he would like. i said i was thinking of getting back into shooting and wouldn`t mind having a go at pigeon.his reply great youy can come and shoot here when ever you want. great first permission and didn`t have to do any leg work to get. now how i lost it. due to a bit of a down turn in work at the time didn`t get around to sorting out SGC and gun etc. seen the farmer every now and then whilest doing maintainence work but not that offten and nothing more said. so at the beginning of this year finally got around to sorting SGC and it came through in march. right so there i am shottie in the cabinet waiting time to contact said farmer and get some shooting. seen land owner to get farmers phone number he says by the way i`ve got new farmer using land.gives me new farmers details. i phone him sorry cant shoot there anymore it`s an organic farm now and i got someone that does my control work. AGHHHHHHHHHHHH So i`m looking for new permission in the bristol south west area. ian
harv
sounds like you got it easy but let it go too easy, sorry if this sounds harsh but farmers let you shoot to control a vermin problem to protect their livelihood and this needs a regular effort. tony the tiger
it's a ahrd thing to be allowed permission on any land, so to let it go that easy means you should be shot... even if you used an air rifle to keep in with the land owner til ya shotty was sorted... Spaniel
I think you will struggle to find some land so close to Bristol Ian. Everything my side as gone already and even the local farmers actually shoot themselves.... What land i do shoot on is all via the Father in law and down to him knowing a few guys over the last 40 years or so...but dont give up
Chard
even the local farmers actually shoot themselves.... Things must be tougher than I thought out there
Highlander
You didn't lose it 'cause you never had it! The problem we hear on PW all the time is peole can't get shooting and from the farmers pov it's because most shooters never look after it when they do get it. Shooting vermin or pigeons etc is not something farmers want done once in a blue moon when it suits mr shooter but 24/7. The motto is 'use it or lose it'
