Identifying Winchester shottie

Quick question......

anyone know if it is possible to i/d a Winchester shotgun from its serial number? Or particularly clued up on the Select range?

Basically I recently bought a Select Sporting II. The box and label says it is a Sporting II. However the markings on the actual gun only say Select Sporting. Is this just a case of Winchester keeping things simple, or have I been had over by the dealer?

Thanks

I believe the Select Sporting II only says select on the action but it should have engraving whereas the Select sporting was a plain silver action with just 'Select' on it

:good: Nice gun !!...........I have the Winchester Select Energy Sporting (Signature) which is the plain one with select energy written on the sides. Mine is the Made in Belgium item which I have been told is the same as most Browning mid to top range Shotguns.

I have been well impressed with it and shoots crack on ! I believe yours was not available with the adjustable stock?.....How much did you give for it ?

They are identical guns on the inside but with different outer makings...An excellent buy.post-16504-1244284717.jpg

Cheers all for putting my mind at rest.

The gun was made in the Browing factory in Belgium. As I understand it, is pretty much a Browning.

Was £900. Traded in my old Sable 12g s/s and sold my Laurona 20g s/s to a mate. So only paid about £300.

Would have loved to have kept the Sable. However it was my Grandads and was probably at least 40yrs old and quite possibly more. So didnt really want it getting battered by shooting hundreds of clays with it, with no cheap way of reparing it. Plus didnt see the point of keeping it locked away, and needed the money!!

You never know, if I can spank some overtime at work, I might try and buy it back.

Am getting to grips with the Select now. Quite different to what I am used to, have shot s/s's since I was 12yrs old! (35 now).
