Highlander
I'm new here so be gentle  ...I appreciate that we're supposed to be doing our bit to control an agricultural pest but I'm told some people exercise a voluntary closed season on pigeons around April thru to July/August. Can't help but notice the birds are getting pretty amorous (are we allowed to talk sex on here?) at the moment and it seems a bit unfair to shoot them in mid **** as it were. What are the views. HAMMY
I think it's been covered on here before, but I shoot them all year round as required. In my neck of the woods, S West Scotland, the type of agriculture, gives them a natural break frome about June through to August. So after the last drillings are in until the cereals are maybe Ripe and laid. We don't have any rape or fancy stuff, mainly Barley, Wheat, peas and Arable Silage. You do what you have to do, to protect the crops, keep the Farmer happy, cause if you don't, someone else shall!! Hammy
Paul in North Lincs.
I do shoot pigeons, and rabbits all year round under the guise of pest contolling, which is purpose of most of my permissions. On my own land, where I shoot for the pot, I do generally give most legal quarry a break around this time, until later on in the year (apart from rats of course). *(Gives them a chance to replensih no-s for later on) I think that most folk on here will be of the same opinion.
