Edward
I have just bought some eley 36grm SSG for fox, and I dont know which choke to use? Thanks
neil smith
SSG have 15 pellets per 1oz & are about 6mm in diameter. You can fire them through any choke but you need to pattern them from your gun, as every shotgun will throw a different pattern size. Pattern test your gun at the desired distance & use the choke that gives you the pattern size your looking for. I would bet 1/2 will give you a good pattern for what you want. Guest RemmySPS
You would have done better buying AAA or BB. Edited June 6, 2009 by RemmySPS
Edward
Thanks what sort of range do you think I could drop one using 1/
henry d
Test it and find out, I wouldn`t use it further than 35yds range, 36gm 1`s or BB`s are way better.
Scarpa
You might fnd that even at under 30yds SSGs will have huge holes in the pattern. For fox sized targets I use 44g of No. 1s... they will be much better at longer ranges as there is plenty of lead in the column. Edward
I patterned them today, and it was to the left, but I can compensate. The only reason why I got the ssg is because we have lost 14chickens in 3 days, and I wanted anything that I could humanly get a fox with and they had no BBs or AAAs (I have a couple AAA that I will use first)
Guest RemmySPS
I patterned them today, and it was to the left, but I can compensate. I would suggest that if they are patterning to the left then your gun needs some cast put on, because all of your cartridges will also pattern in the same place regardless of how big or loose that pattern may be. I did pattern a 30grm 6.5 at the same time and it was central, exatly where I aimed. The gun fits me like a glove, so I will try again.
