shot shot
Normally around here, you'd find maybe one or two road kills a month, along a 3 mile country road that I walk my dog. But today, along the last mile or so that is along a main(ish) road, I found a female blackbird, a big grey squirrel, a rook, and a sparrow. The sparrow wasn't dead, and had to be dispatched (I don't know how to ring its neck, so I stood on its head ) Anyway, my point is, how come there are so many more animals getting hit by cars than normal? could it be due to the warm spell we've been having? I think this is the right section, but if not, go ahead and change it. Edited June 8, 2009 by shot shot
David BASC
Possibly not, it could just be circumstantial, animals in the wild die or get killed all the time at a pretty consistent frequency I bet, and they will all be scavenged! I guess this was a matter of timing; you got there before the other predators!
shot shot
Yeh, it could just have been coincidence. All said critters were put over the nearest hedge in what I imagine is a futile attempt to keep the scavengers off of the road thanks for the reply

shot shot
[quote (I don't know how to ring its neck, so I stood on its head ) that will do it mate it was on a tarmac'ed road, I was wearing boots, and like I say, I don't know how to ring the neck of a bird that small. I know it's not a dignified way to go, but I'd rather do that than leave it lying there ATB steve

Harnser
Maybe some kind of foodstuff has been spilt on the road and attracting the birds to feed . You can see it at harvest time ,tractors spilling grain on the road and all sorts of birds filling their boots . Harnser .
