Baldrick
Don't buy a T8! You will get so much more satisfaction and service life from a stainless mod. My .22-250 Sako has a 21" barrel with a ASE CQB. I don't obsess about loss of MV with shortening barrels, as I am not a particularly fastidious Shot. The Burpster
Anything between 20-22" should be fine. Assuming its 1 in 10 twist rate, thats 2 full revolotions in the barrel. My Sako 75 is also 21" and is the most accurate rifle I have....

You will lose velocity (c. 30-50fps per inch, depending on powder choice, charge and bullet weight), but you gain balance and lighter weight. So the answer is what you want to do with that trade-off. I would avoid the T8 as they decay and are not good value next to the P8 or ASE line. ASE would be my choice, but if you get a P8, make sure it's the Compact - makes little (no?) difference to moderation but is considerably lighter which means much better balance.
