at106
Hello, im new to this forum and am looking for my first shotgun. I am only 14 and i am aware i cant own a gun but it will be on my dads licence. But saying that as it will be me using it i have to pay for most of it. Which is fair enough. I have a budget of around £500 and im looking for a under and over left handed 12 guage shotgun. I was looking at the webley and scott 912 but after reading some reviews it doesnt sound great. Then i started looking at the berreta 682 but a second hand one is out of my price range. So what would you recommend? Ive been looking on gun trader but all the left handed guns are a lot more expensive.
stevethevanman
Lefty guns are more expensive because they are a rare breed ...even though I write with my left hand haha. I got my lad a semi auto, think it was a berreta 901??? But then got a bettinsoli super sport I think and its great...he hits verything with it and is better than me with it definately. Also dont just buy anything, make sure it fits a good reputable gun dealer should be able to help with that. Also get a few clay lessons and try some guns, decide what you like and then buying that is not a bad decision. Buy a multichoke. Billy.
You could always look down the finance route... I do keep seeing an advert in the shooting mags and you can pick up a decent shotty for the equivalent of £18 a week, meaning you can save up whatever money you earn to put towards paying for it. Someone on here will know which shop it is.
at106
Thanks for the suggestions. Ive had one clay lesson so far and i used a beretta silver pigeon. It was a great gun and i was pretty good with it especially for my first time, but unfortunately its way out of my budget. Ive seen a lot of places that do the weekly payment but if i do spend more because i get a better gun my dad will probably pay more then ill have to pay him back. But if anyone has anyother suggestions ill be very interested.
groach1234
Just look around, picked up a left hand side lock side by side for £450 and it look like the dogs danglies there are good guns out there if you look long enough. Also lets hope this doesn't go the same way as the last 14 year old new shooter who now no longer resides with us.... Good Luck finding the gun. jinxy72
forget weekly payments ( ur too young ) and look for either a lanber, biakal or bettinsoli .... would get a good 2nd hand one for that price and all are good guns ... the biakal u could prob buy new for that
Ean76
Just get something which suits your shootings discipline(s) and actually fits (length of pull) etc. As mentioned, a multi-choke would certainly be worthwhile.
at106
Sorry i havnt been on lately. Ive now decided to get a 20 bore just because theyre lighter so itll be easier for me to start with. Ive decided to get a cheap gun then later on upgrade to a 12 bore. Ive been looking at getting a macnab lowlander as i can get one for £250. Is this a good price? J@mes
try loads at the shop and see what fits you, dont worry too much about buying names at the minute. look at right handed guns too, you can always have the stock cast to fit you southpaws! get a multichoke if you plan on shooting skeet and other disciplines. if you are only going for sporting, I'd stick with a fixed choke. i have 1/4 and 1/2 in my m/c and havent changed them yet. at106
Yeah i know 20g carts are more expensive, but the gun will only be for getting used to shooting then i will be able to buy a 12g. Ive been trying a few guns out in shops and have been testing straight stocks, there was a nice beretta 687 a while ago for £800 but i dont want to spend that much on a first gun. But if we can get this macnab for £250 i think well get it.
