been quoted £ 1400 for a new engine ( well one with 78000 miles on it aparantly) at that price might as well get a new truck ? Or anyone else got any ideas?big end has gone I think! Maybe part ex it? Or if I can get an engine for £6-700 ?

firstly I'd bung it on ebay spares or repair just to see if you can get shot of it without spending anything on it and look for another one. Sometimes people pay good money for rubbish on there, secondly its worth getting it stripped down to see what damage has been done, if you can do it yourself then you may be able to get away with a crank re grind and new shells. Not sure on this engine but you may be able to just drop the sump off to ***** the damage, as for a re conditioned engine look at the small print as you'll usually find they need your unit to be in serviceable condition or hefty surcharges usually apply.

sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you have probably dropped a valve. known problem, very expensive fix. You will need a new or reconditioned bottom end.Apparently the oil pump is not up to its job.The importers just washed their hands of the problem. Usally happens around 40 to 50 thou miles. The engine you can buy would be ok if it has been done up,but be veeeeery careful.

Thanks for the tips I think your right it probably was the oil pump failure in the first place to be honest it has been running noisy for some time but now it obviously is clocked out. perhaps it is time to start again? Second hand trucks do seem cheap but then again you don't get much for £2K these days so it might be cheaper to fix it. Is this a know problem with that motor ie if I get a new engine will it happen again?
