Couple of night shooting last weekend

Went out for a walk with the CZ style last week and took some piccies. Recently got my FAC so I've been out a fair bit enjoying the extra range I get. It's a .17 HMR style 16" barrel with a WTC 4.5-10*50 scope on it. Very nice light outfit. post-1217-1247767144.jpg

First night I went out around dusk time and shot a couple without the lamp.

Then decided to lay up with the lamp at a spot where the farmer had mentioned some annoying ones had been chewing the trees up.

Shot this the day after in the lashing rain. Went out to see what results shooting in the rain could produce. Ended up shooting my first hare.

Not to open the usual 'Game shooting at night' can of worms, but your thread says "Couple of night shooting last weekend" which implies you shot the hare at night, under lamp.

Nope. Was shot at dusk. I know about shooting game at night. The only ones shot with a lamp have a lamp in the picture.

Do you have any problems with the lamp reflecting off the barrel and/or mod :good:

Nice job by the way :good:

Yes there is a problem with reflections. I'm hoping to upgrade my lamp to a lightforce 170 at the CLA. Don't know if that will help but I just tend to aim the beam slightly off centre.

Probably going to open up an old wound here but what is the problem that some people have grasping the concept of lamping hares?

It is PERFECTLY LEGAL to lamp brown hares on enclosed land if you are:

a) The landowner

 The "occupier" of land (either tenant or person who holds "shooting rights").

Whilst shooting hares at night is prohibited under the Hares Act this was superceded by the later Ground Game Act. I choose not to shoot hares on some permissions because they are not about in huge numbers and do not pose that much of a problem (I do a lot of rabbit control to prevent damage to earth embankments), on others I have been asked to leave them by the landowner/tenant.

I would have no hesitation in taking hares under a lamp if I was asked to control them.
