hitfreshairagain
Hi all, hope you can help with a question which will probably have you all laughin your knockers off well here goes... I am using a o/u fitted with 1/4 and 1/2 chokes for pigeon shooting over decoys.I ahve read in another thread that you have the more open choke in the bottom barrel(being the 1/4) and 1/2 in the top. Now also im told you take the shot with the pigeons over your deeks with the more open giving you the 2nd shot with a tighter pattern as they are flighting away.If so im taking my first shot with the bottom barrel is this right as i always thought you should use the top one first. Also the barrel selector is marked .. and. what relevance does this have to which barrel Hope you can help and i appologise for my stupidity. Thanks Lee
Whitebridges
There is usually a barrel selector on the gun. Looks like you are using a Beretta ? I think 1 . (dot) is the under barrel and .. (2 dots) is the over barrel? Try a few safe "air shots" to work out which is which if you must. Otherwise the gun manual will give you this info. Don't get pre occupied with choke. Step one is to kill one bird with two shots. Under and overs ( double kills) will come with practice. Normally the under barrel carries less choke than the top. I've shot a few pigeon with a top shot ( rep his country) and he always shot the furthest away bird first and then the closest. Walk before you can run as they say........ there is no need to apologise, fair question and I hope my reply might help. John_R
Shooting the bottom barrel first is usually recommended because that barrel causes less muzzle flip than the top barrel, which in turn makes it quicker for you to recover and be ready to take a second shot should the need arise. However, seeing as a double barrelled gun with selectable trigger offers you the choice, you are free to make your mind up as the situation dictates. alexm
As a nipper I was taught "two top tight".... two dots = top barrel = tighter choke As has already been said, you would normally shoot bottom barrel first.
