joeshaw08
I've going out for abit of pigeon shooting tomorrow over oats, has anybody had any success over this crop? There are alot of laid patches in there after the rough weather we've been having and a few pigeons are flitting about. Is it worth giving it a go? MerseaDavid
A friend of mine shot 52 today on one of the Oat fields I combined yesterday. Crows seem to love the fields more than the pigeons though. I have seen 100's of pigeons going into our Oat fields every year, so it is always worth checking it out. joeshaw08
Well I had a go on them yesterday, but was about ten minutes in and got absolutely soaked through so I left early. Another problem I found was I didn't have the wirly with me. I've never shot over laid crops before and in my ignorance I just set out some plastic decoys. Also my hide was in the middle of the field and the cammo was completely the wrong colour; dark in the middle of a golden field stood out like a sore thumb. So i'll be moving to the side next the hedgerow next time. I'm out with the magnet next time so this should help.
MerseaDavid
I tend not to use a net when I am in the middle of the field, I just sit in the tramlines and use the crop for cover.

MerseaDavid
We had over 500 pigeons on our oat fields and about 3000 crows the fields were black. I might have ago at them tomorrow if I am not combining.
