I've seen some discussion of them before and what I've seen is that to make sure they are specific for dogs. Human electrilyes such as Gatorade don't have the stuff dogs need.

Also with a lab there is a condition that a lot of labs in the US seem to be having called EIC (Exercise Induced Collapse). The cause isn't readily apparent but I think I've heard it could be genetic. Might be worth Googleing to see if that's what this lab is facing.

Best of luck and glad to hear you got him through it OK.

pardon my ignorance, what are they?

basically they are salts and used after periods of dehydration after vomiting / diarrhea usually they come with some form of glucose replacement as well. They will do the job if you have got a collapsed dog. Interesting that its labs it happens to in the states as here it seems to be a spaniel issue. I've a mate who had real problems and in the end after spending a lot of money on tests for this that and the other changed food back to a basic sainsburys dry food and it hasn't happened again. I think MC had it happen to his on here as well seems like a bit of food through the day is all they need to just keep the sugar levels up but in an emergency a source of electrolytes should help.

There like salts and minerals, Like whats in a Lucozade Sport Drink, its glucose and slat and mineral replacement. If you can get specific ones for dogs go for. Not too sure about giving dogs lucozade sport or something :S lol!

Check out with a vet maybe and see if it will benefit. Aslong as it don't poison them I dont see that it could do any harm :good:
