toomuchwork
Hello all, I was wondering if anyone has a recording of a magpie distress call. I managed to download one on to my fne this weekend and it was great at attracting magpies and jays at short range but it was not very loud and i managed to shoot 2 jays and a magpie. If anyone has one in mp3 format then i could put it on a cd and take a portable cd player with me- hopefully with more success. I got the idea from youtube- cant believe how well it works- the videos on there are well worth looking at! If anyone has a recording then please help! Many thanks in advance, Ed

DustyIrl
take a few matches out of a box..then shake it!!! sounds just like a magpie!! +1 on that. A few quick shakes works well. There is a website for downloading calls. Heres two i can remember; http://www.western-rivers.com/downloads.html and type 'varmint als' into google and check his site
John_R
The raucous rattle is their normal call, I think the distress call is more like a weaker version of that of rooks & crows.
RossEM
Get 2 small black film cannisters or something similar - put some 6 shot in (or a few .177 pellets) and seal them together. Shake it about a bit. Works like a charm.

Ferret Master
You've broken the law using a recording for the purpose of luring in birds to shoot. FM
