Cranfield
On laid cereals you are often shooting small open areas and it is important to leave room for the incoming birds to land. Its very tempting to fill the hole with decoys, but this will put incoming birds off. I often just use the rotary.
Cosd
Not all birds will want to decoy, it may be something they didn't like as you mention but they may not be interested in a feed. You haven't mentioned the pattern you used? Different patterns work on different days. Watch the woodies reaction and try to work out what they don't like. Don't be scared to change the pattern. It doesn't sound like there was anything wrong with your set up, unless the majority of birds were jinking away! Harnser
Depending on how big the laid patch is on a fairly small area of only a dozen square yards or so i will put the whirly in front of the laid piece about 20 yards away and just a few deeks on the killing area patch . Dont put to many deeks out the birds need room to land . Harnser .
joeshaw08
I was thinking the same thing about which patterns to use as you don't get enough room to make a good horseshoe pattern. I was shooting over laid crops yesterday and I put the wirly in one laid patch and some deeks in the patch next to it, but pretty much filled it. The pigeons came in but were actually hovering over the laid parts trying to find room to land (actually made them a damn site easier to shoot!) but next time i'll only use a few deeks. Ended with 28 so was pretty successful in the end.
