roadkill
How do i make my pup jump into the boot of my car as im sure shes playing hard to get ....... I have watched her all week in the back garden jumping on a big pile of slabs which is a lot higher than the boot of the car , but i cant for the life of me get her to jump into the boot . I have tried chucking in her ball, puppy treats and i have even been in the boot myself calling her but she just looks at me as if im stupid So in the end i pick her up and place her in myself .... Any tips
WGD
How old is she? Shouldn't really be jumping, particularly out, until about 6 months, older for a larger breed. I had the same problem. At the moment you could feed her in the car, lifting her in and out so she associates the car with a positive situation. Once she's of an appropriate age take her for a short run in the car before every walk or training session, it will soon click but you MUST be consistent and do it every time. Very soon she will be so keen to get in the car she'll jump in no problem. Good luck p.s. my last dog was 14 months before I sorted that out, down to my own laziness and inconsistency - then she had her first season and I didn't want to take her out locally, 3 weeks in season forced me into taking her in the truck before a walk and she's abs fine in and out of the truck now. SteveH
I agree - once your pup begins to associate the car with pleasant experiences she'll probably jump right in. My dog started to love the car once he knew it meant he got to go swimming!
Mungler
Ah ha. My cocker had a similar issue but it was avoiding getting back in the car at the end of a walk or between drives. Really used to P me off because it lead to wider dicipline issues i.e. her copping a deaf'n and going off on a sniff. The cure - I got in the car and drove off. After her folllowing the car across half a dozen fields and getting anxious that she wasn't coming home when I stopped and said "up" she jumped in no problems. Never done is since now. davecooper1
Had the same problem, with my springer, but after shooting last week, walked back to my 4x4 opened the back door, and she jumped straight in, with out being told, much to my amazement, been fine ever since.
