joke209061
Spent a day out decoying for the first time really, They were coming between shoers all day, we must have shot 4 and bit boxes of cartridges and missed far more than we hit. But there were some pretty good shots in the mix I hasten to add. We started off with 13 shell decoys and 1 floater. We ended up with 12 woodies and 1 ferrel. Well i think a few more trips to the clays will be in order to try and improve the ratios, and now i know to take some cheese and pickle sarnies with us next time. joke209061
Yeah i know, like I said, the ratios are pretty bad. Id set the decoys too far out for the first couple of hours, its the first time ive decoyed, and the pigeons were just too far out so i was taking lots of long shots and only took 2 birds. I brought the pattern in closer to the hide and we started having more joy. The guns are a Berretta SP686 and a Winchester select field. Ive only been shooting 5 times so not too bad for a complete begginer I feel, but more time on the clays is required. On the way back after packing up we walked back through the farms overgrown and unfarmed orchards and came across two muntjacks, thought popping at them with no6 would be pointless so just watched them jump into the brambles, made me think wether it would be worth getting a fac for the munt's and rabbits. perfect
What chokes were you using mate? maybe open chokes would be more forgiving and push you ratio up.
joke209061
Yeah, i had 1/2 and 1/4 in, my mates are fixed at that also. I pretty much always have those in, for no reason other than the first few times i went i was shooting my mates f/c and i thought best to continue with that. Now i know better but had driven down to suffolk without my other chokes. Ill know better next time!? Our ratios were made slightly better by 2 collared doves, a magpie and a herring gull that weren't in the pictures.
