Topgunners
Sunday After our eventful day with Gb & SS on Saturday we ventured out early on Sunday and went to a field by a big wood hoping for a Basil or Munty. After 2 hours nothing showed; so we went back to the pea fields and sat and watched for quite a while. The birds were not flitting about in anywhere near the numbers as before. There was hardly any wind blowing at all and we set up 2 hides in different fields. Had a very slow morning for only 25 birds. Picked up and went mooching. After visiting a number of farms all with some form of combined crops, the pigeons were just not about in any great numbers. We decided to set up on a field of partially cut wheat (due to a drive shaft seizure) and had a steady afternoon in the very warm sunshine. We shot 49 pigeons and 4 jackdaws. Monday I went for a good drive around after finishing work and the farmers were out and about everywhere. All of the country lanes had a combine, baler, tractor,or jeep flying about doing their stuff. In one area 3 farmers were all combining their crops. Wheat, peas and rape. Should be a bonanza time for us and the pigeons. It will be just like a buffet style dinner for the birds and hopefully a big bag for us. Might even need 2 or 3 more guns out to cover all the fields. I will post a request up but it will be very short notice. Dave K Edited August 18, 2009 by Topgunners
