ziplex
My daughter brought home a squirrel from St Nicholas market for the grand sum of £2.31, bless her....that was Weds but it was ok until the 21st, (apparently). I haven't cooked squirrel before and I swear she said the chap on the stall told her to stew it with veg etc. as you might do a stew normally. I did and long story short it was awful, in fact I was a little wary 'cause it smelt a little 'rich' before I dropped it in the pot. Daughter 1 took a mouthful then promply spat it out, Daughter 2 did the same followed by some colourful language , the Springer seemed to think it was ok but it was very strong and, well....tasted 'orrible!. As it turns out she was told to 'roast it' not stew it so my fault for it 'tasting like roadkill' Either the rodent was a little off or it just 'aint suited to a stew pot :( Any ideas? pyr8
sounds like it may have been a bit ripe.
davecooper1
Never tried it, but shoot one yourself, then cook, and try it your self.

ziplex
I reckon it might of been a bit off, also i'll roast the next one....I did notice there was some liver still on it so that might of accounted for the strong/rich taste perhaps. I think i'll try one next time I shoot one myself as you suggest

ziplex
Our Jess thought it was cheap, they were selling lots of 'em too. If you have access to plenty of squirrel seems you could make some money

ziplex
Yep.......£2.31, they were vac' packed but even so. Like I mentioned they were selling well too, you'd probably sell dozens if you could get hold of them, same with pigeon. Everyone i've given pigeon to love it but apart from me giving them some there isn't a ready supply of them. When our club done a taste test at the game fare last year they had goose, duck, pigeon and rabbit......pigeon came out well ahead, which was nice, but people can't really get hold of them locally. I might just give it a try, I sell pigeons for 50p each to people in my street.
