Dead-Eyed Duck
'Something cheap and cheerful for the odd shot at fox'. Don't even bother then, as you get what you pay for and cheap and cheerful is not the way to go if you want to shoot foxes at 'reasonable' ranges. Most foxes are shot at dusk/night, and you cannot get a cheap and cheerful scope to do this......... The only option on a limited bgudget is to get a decent 2nd hand scope........ Loki
Wotcha Sportsman GC in Exeter were doing Bushnell Legend 3.5-10x44? with ballistic plex reticle for £133+P&P; RRP on these is around £350.00. In my opinion better than similar priced 'others' around..........and plenty good enough for 'general' work. If serious work is anticipated/expected at dawn/dusk you may want to explore other better suited options.
Watchin_n_Waitin
You can't beat a good leupold 3-9 in my opinion theres plenty on ebay. although i'd wait until the exchange rate improves
Dead-Eyed Duck
Don't get a scope with fine cross hairs as you will not be able to see them at dusk or when lamping. Get a scope with the best light pick-up that you can. I bought a 6-24 x 40 Leupold once with very fine cross hairs, and it was useless - that's not to say that Leupolds are not good - just that this one was. You won't need a mag greater than 12 for ranges up to 150 yards or so. I currently use a 2.5 - 10 x 56, and have shot dozens of foxes using this scope on calibres from 17Rem to 22-250.
