Bought a gun today

As the title say, i have possibly made a mistake but need to know where i stand.

I bought a gun today and checked the cert that the gun had been correctly entered on to my SGC and bought it home and then had another look and in what i thought was the serial number slot is actually the SGC # a 3 hour drive to cover 34 miles and desparately needing a wee might have distracted me.

It was printed on the previous owners SGC and i have no doubt that it's legal but wanted to check what i can do as i know i can't write on my own cert.

Do i just notify my force of the purchase with all the details or do i have to go back and get the seller to add the serial number?

Definitely a newbie mistake but am worried now :good:

Cheers,

Jon.

I was told by my flo that with shotgun certificate the peice of paper and whatevers written on it is for my personal record. The police have there own electronic up to date version. So i presume it is the same for FAC. But would be best to check :good:

As was said, there is no problem about adding the correct serial number to your own SGC.

The only potential problem might be when the police try to match up the two notifications - the notification from the seller to his police force and your notification to your own police force. To keep yourself in the clear, make sure that the correct serial number is clearly stated on the notification to your own police force. And be sure to send it by Recorded Delivery and pin the RD receipt to your SGC.
