Ozzy Fudd
had a great day out shooting today, went up to a mates house and was shooting over his familys land. we havnt shot there from around christmas, and there was plenty about. main reason i went up was to clear out 3 greybacks that have been hanging around the yard lately (was gonna use the 10/22) but when i checked the places i was likely to get a shot nowhere was safe, so that was that plan knocked out - luckily id brought a shotgun too, just incase... but the greybacks were nowhere to be seen, so we went for a walk over the fields. we only had the cartridge belts with us (infact richie's wasnt full, so we had about 40 cartridges between us), not going to bore you with details but we ended up with 6 pigeons, 5 crows, 6 starlings, a magpie and two squirrels between us - we werent shooting too bad for a change B) when we got back to his house we had one cartridge left each (saved one each for the greybacks). they werent there but something better was - richies dad going for a walk with the tikka t3, after some foxes! so a quick run into the house for another box of cartridges and off we went. didnt get anything - saw one fox but couldnt get a shot, and he missed a rabbit at 82 yards (i had the rangefinder with me...) and had a hare following us about for half an hour - i even turned round to it at one point and told it to **** off as there was a fox about, but i suppose it thought the safest place to be was behind 3 heavily armed fox hunters so thats been my day. it wasnt the biggest bag weve had but it was the best day in a long time. i dont know about everyone else but it always feels to me like you have to justify your presence to the farmers when you go shooting, ie, by clearing out whatever they want rid of (crows, rabbits, etc), but today was totally different - no pressure, no worrying about making the shots or how many you get - just enjoying being out of the house and having a laugh Edited September 5, 2009 by babbyc1000

anser2
Well done , but the starlings are no longer pest species , but are protected birds unless you have a licence to kill them.
