chrisv
There are lots of variations on the idea of shoot a certain number of shots, then clean. Have a look at this link http://www.border-barrels.com/shoot-in.htm Their method seems way over the top, but they know more than most about barrels. My advice would be to make sure you're actually cleaning properly when you do clean. Get decent, not too agressive solvents ,Shooters' Choice, Butch's Bore Shine etc. Hope this helps Chris
bigbird2
hey bobby what rifle you getting m8 ? i have always stuck to 1 method which is : fire 1 then snake it ..do this for ten shots, Then fire 5 shots and snake it.. Do this 4 times and then just let rip and clean it after every use.. if yer buying a 17hmr do as above but clean it every 20 shots or so when run in as they dont like getting too dirty.. :
Blackbart
If it is brand new, clean the barrel BEFORE you take a shot as it may have a light oil film in it and by giving it a quick clean you are assured a clean start. I dont think the shoot 1 clean, shoot 1 clean, etc etc for a week of sunday's is necessary on a factory made rifle.I personaly would shoot 5..clean,then shoot 10...give it a good clean, and then just routine cleaning. Some people overclean imo and i dont clean my rifles until they tell me they need cleaning ie I miss.
silver_fox
A friend and I have exactly the same Remmy 700P, bought at about the same time. I used the shoot 1 - clean; shoot 2 - clean; shoot 3 - clean etc. He just zeroed his with a few rounds then went went straight onto the the range for a competition. We have now shot hundreds of rounds each and there is absolutely nothing between them. So, for an out of the box factory Remmy, I wouldn't bother shooting it in; but if I had just spent serious dosh on a new target barrel then I would probably shoot it in quite carefully. You pays your money, you takes your choice.
