The police is a very good career for any young person to enter, the only problem here in N Ireland, is to join the PSNI you must be of the Roman Catholic faith. The Government here say this is not discrimination, but Protestants are not being accepted at this time. Hmmm yes Hmmm.

Go for it mate. Ive been in 13 years now and still get a buzz from it. There are downsides to it, like any job. Paperwork is still there but is not as bad as it was a few years ago. Endless hours stood outside pubs/clubs dealing with drunk people, domestics and feral kids. It is a job that will challenge you. There are some awful things that you will encounter, and have to deal with. Dealing with a decomposing body then telling the next of kin of a death is probably as bad as it gets.

A lot of the above is the negative part of the job and reflects only a small part of what its about. There is lots more to it and you are guaranteed to meet and work with good mates and have a laugh. Oh, not to forget drive a car with Woo Woos on too!!!

You will rarely get another job which has as much variety and no two days are the same.

I'd say go for it. Pay is OK after the first couple of years though they have brought in a new pension scheme for new recruits which many of us think is inferior to the old one.
