roadkill
How do i train the dog to hold the dummy instead of dropping it at my feet ? I would like her to sit with it in her mouth until i want it .
jasper3
this is just how i did it weather it is right or wrong.... when my old dog retieved the dummy..he would drop it at my feet for me to throw again..if he didnt put it in my hand ..I would take a few steps back..this would go on until he put it im my hand.( he should be sat ) .then give big praise..keep repeating until it becomes 2nd nature..then when he has done this....make the exceptance a few seconds longer and introduce the word DROP
monkeyboots
my springer wont hold a dummy for me and ive tried everything but if i use a tennis ball he will hold it till im ready to take it , you could try a tennis ball for a few days/weeks then try the dummy again or try a fur covered dummy
WGD
Agree with jasper3, don't accept it - if you pick the dummy when he's dropped it at your feet you are accepting it, don't.
Cushat
Try bringing him to heel and walking away with him as he comes to you (with him still holding the dummy). WHatever you do, don't give him another retrieve if he drops it.
