No choke opens up until 16 yds anyway so J Dogs 50 yds is actually only 34 so quarter is ample. We as in my shooting buddy and i are using 24 n0 7s in steel and regurally shooting pigeons to 45 yds using cylinder in bottom barrel and 3/8 in top.

Both guns tested on pattern plate so good enough pattern at these distances.

Tignme,

That's my point, we should all know what our guns do with our cartridges at a set distance, to kill a pigeon effectively its around 147 pellets in a 3o inch circle. you need this concentration of shot to hit a vital organ or spinal cord to make a clean kill. we all like a challenging day but how many of the 50yrd birds are slightly pricked? if you pattern you can then choke to suit. you wouldn't climb down a rock face without a long enough rope!

I had to shoot at not-so-close birds today, my luck was in - several I thought I had claen missed went 100's of yards then fell dead or just made it into a tree and later fell dead. All a matter of chance, some days you know you have hit them, feathers fly, and so do they!!
